After the Nativity Play

As we bless our little children
And rejoice at all they do,
We must remember those not with us
Till we meet them when our life here is through.

God bless the little children –
May they hear angels sing on high,
Who never heard their mother’s
Voice in lilting lullaby.

God bless the souls of unborn
Who never felt a kiss upon the face,
May they know the love of angels
And live in God’s Kingdom of Grace.

God bless the sweet miscarried babes
And bless their families here –
May they see the love that made them
And await us when our time is near.

God bless the little stillborn and
Those who lived mere numbered days –
May they be rocked in the arms of Jesus
As they join angels in praise.

Let their souls not be forgotten.
Let their brief lives be not in vain –
For they await us in God’s Glory
Where we shall all meet again.

A Healing Touch

A gentle resting of three-year-old Ryder's hand
On the forearm of ninety-seven-year-old Granny,
That Is a healing touch.

A simple act of sharing a cup of oyster crackers
From four-year-old Bianca with ninety-five-year old Granny,
That is a healing touch.

A weary snuggle of Quinton's forehead
on my shoulder while sitting in church,
That is a healing touch.

A tender inspection of my aging hand
By nine-year-old Monica,
That is a healing touch.

A "Tutu" squeal of three -year-old Liliya
As she runs to hug my knees,
That is a healing touch.

A morning back rub given me by
Six-year-old Sofia,
That is a healing touch.

A climb upon my knee by two-year-old Easton,
Requesting me to read his book,
That is a healing touch.

A beckoning tap from five-year-old Grayden
Calling, "Come, watch me, Sito,"
That is a healing touch.

A dimpled smile in response to my coo,
By four-month-old Lincoln,
That is a healing touch.

The touch, the presence, the sounds
of children and grandchildren
Can brighten the dreariest day
and cheer the loneliest heart.
May God bless my grandbabies,
my little Valentines,
And all the children in your life,
Dear Reader.
